You can see the updated list of workshops on the page.
How do I sign up for the workshop?

What if I don't have a current Illinois teaching certificate but I do have a Type 75 (administrative certificate) or a Type 73 (School Personnel) Certificate?
You cannot substitute teach on a type 75 or 73 certificate. You will need to apply for a substitute certificate.
What if my teaching certificate is in another state?
You will need to complete all steps to receive an Illinois substitute teaching certificate.
Which schools are included in the seven counties?
All public schools in DeWitt, Livingston, McLean, Tazewell, Marshall, Putnam, and Woodford counties are eligible.
Will additional school districts be involved?
If a school district is interested in participating in SLATE they can contact Joni LaDew or Tom Laxton to talk about the steps in forming a partnership. Partnerships are formed with school districts and not individual schools.
Does this apply to private schools too?
This program only includes public schools.
Why?
Most children in America attend public schools, which are funded with taxpayer dollars. Our policyholders are taxpayers. When SLATE saves the public schools money it is saving our policyholders money. This is also a way to direct our actions where it will affect the most people, first. In addition, liability issues are more clearly defined with public schools so it makes administration of the program less complicated and less costly while still serving the provider of education for the majority of children.
Can I sub more days on my own time?
Anyone who meets the state of Illinois criteria can substitute as much as they wish on their own time. SLATE is only for the use of your ES day benefit, or PV, PT or compressed work week days off as a volunteer substitute teacher for prearranged professional development experiences. If you work a compressed workweek, PV or PT and choose to use your day off to substitute for pay, those arrangements are between the school district you substitute in and you.
This also can be used for the employee's personal development.
What if my teaching certificate is expired?
You can contact the DeWitt, Livingston, and McLean Counties Regional office of Education to find out how to renew your certification, or contact Joni LaDew or Tom Laxton.
Will I get reimbursed for the substitute teaching certificate registration fees?
When you serve as a volunteer substitute teacher you have the option of getting your certification fee reimbursed.
Can a part-time person participate?
Not at this time.
